Watermelon is a significant product in Iranian agriculture. Annual global production of the fruit is in the region of 39.7 million tons and Iran is the second largest producer after China with 3.9 million tons/year – 10% of worldwide output. The Kerman Province accounts for 20% of domestic production. Watermelon cultivation in the region of Iran focuses on early maturing varieties. The sugar content of watermelon ranges between 8 to 14%.
Product Calendar
This is the most common watermelon variety grown in Iran. The fruit is oval shaped, the exterior is light green with dark green stripes. Average unit weight is between 5 to 10 kg. This variety is suitable for transport and storage. Crimson Sweet has small dark seeds and has a very high sugar content.

This watermelon variety ,which has been cultivated by the producers on the increasing demands in recent years, is a medium early variety.
Its greatest feature is that it is seedless with a high sugar content as well as long shelf life with a crispy eating quality.
